Sepehr, a 28 year old male living in Canada since October 2009, came to Canada after 1988 the post- elections and movement was crushed brutally. Sepehr thought he was one the lucky ones when escaped persecution and sought asylum in Canada in Oct. 2009. Sepehr was an amateur Boxer in 91 KG category in Iran, and therefore was a popular and high profile person. During the 2009 post-election protests, Sepehr tried to help a pregnant woman who was being savagely beaten by the members of security forces. He was successful in rescuing the woman, but then he was in trouble. He was wanted and he went in to hiding, he managed to scrape and ended up in Canada, where he applied for refugee protection. Immediate Protection was denied to him by Immigration Refugee panel, on technicalities as Sepehr could not remember few details about dates and events.

Since his refugee claim, it has come to light that Sepehr experiences brain damage resulting from repeated blows to the head as a former boxer. He has difficulty remember details of events and experiences. There are medical evidence and psychological evidences, however as the Honorable Minister of Immigration admitting the short fall of previous immigration act, the new evidences could not be presented when appealing a negative decision by an IRB panel, these evidences and those adduced and arrived after the decision was delivered, could not alleviate the injustices done in Sepher’s case. He has an aunt and 2 cousins in Canada. He has been volunteering at a school for physically and mentally challenged youth since his arrival as a Teacher’s Assistant. He was eventually hired by the Toronto District School Board as a part-time TA so that he may be paid for the work he does with these children. He has formed a very special bond with the children he works with, and many have written letters of support on his behalf. Sepehr has the love and support of the entire school community as colleagues, and even the parents of the children Sepehr works with have also written letters of support. Sepehr is detained at present by Canadian Border Security Authority and is awaited to be deported to Iran, where there would be a great danger awaiting him, as a consequences of his perceived political involvement and his high profile status.
