Dear Minister Kenney:
The state of human rights in the Islamic republic of Iran has been criticized by
international human rights activists, the United Nations General Assembly, and
governments around the world.
American, Israeli and European officials believe that Tehran is planning to build nuclear
weapons and are considering a potential military invasion. In the meantime, Immigration
Canada is taking exceptional measures to send back refugees to Iran, where these
innocent people, whose only aspiration is to live in a safe country will face violence and
possibly persecution.
Iran is presently considered a danger for the world and it is my strong belief that sending Iranian
asylum seekers back to their country of origin is neither wise, nor humane. We are not only
endangering their lives, but also damaging Canada's reputation of a country with high respect for
human rights.
I hope that you would consider a temporary halt to all deportations to Iran.
Thank you for your attention to this issue.
Sincerely,
Vera Gueorguieva, RN, MN
